Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships

From 21 to 29 September, the 2024 UCI Road and Para-Cycling Road World Championships will take place in the Zurich region. Tram and bus operations will be restricted during the races. We have listed the most important information about the restrictions in the city centre, the Zollikon/Küsnacht region and the entire canton of Zurich for you.

Top riders from all over the world compete in 53 road races and para-cycling competitions. The races are held in two disciplines: time trial and road racing.

About 1,000 drivers from 75 countries will be on the pedal. The Para-Cycling Road World Championships will see 300 athletes from almost 50 countries compete for the coveted titles on their tandems, handbikes, tricycles and racing bikes. In addition, various fun races for everyone will take place.

You can find all the information about the 2024 UCI Road and Para-Cycling Road World Championships on the organiser’s website.

Information on public transport

Tram and bus operations are restricted in various regions of the city and canton of Zurich during the races. The circuits and times vary on each race day and thus also the impact on public transport. The affected lines are rerouted, run on shortened routes or are temporarily suspended. Limmatquai will be closed throughout the entire duration of the World Championships.

Note on the SBB app: The SBB app cannot display alternative stops in the vicinity when searching for a timetable. In concrete terms, this means that no connections are displayed at stops without a timetabled service due to road closures, even though there is a service within walking distance. The SBB online timetable at www.sbb.ch/fahrplan can display connections from alternative stops in the vicinity. These settings must be activated: Step-by-step instructions for the SBB online timetable.

Your connections and tickets

Your best connections can be found in the ZVV timetable or the ZVV app.

ZVV tickets and national direct transport (e.g. Bern-Zurich, Zentrum Witikon) are valid during racing times for the detours suggested in the online timetable. Connection tickets or route changes do not have to be purchased for routes that deviate from the original route.

Smart travellers can buy their return ticket before the outward journey with the ZVV app and save themselves long waiting times at the ticket machines on the return journey.

Barrier-free travel during the World Cycling Championships 2024

The connections in the ZVV are largely barrier-free. The start and finish areas of the races can be reached from barrier-free stations and stops. In some cases, assistance from staff is required when boarding or alighting for those in wheelchairs.

Most of the stations and stops along the way are barrier-free. There are restrictions at some bus stops and at Winterthur Grüze and Winterthur Töss railway stations.

We recommend that passengers with a walking impairment check that their journey is barrier-free. Information on barrier-free access will be available in the ZVV app three weeks before the event.
